House Moving Procedures

Please note that your house moving project is unique and the following is intended as a general guide only. Please call us with any specific questions.

Prospective Procedure:

  1. Send pictures with dimensions.
  2. We will give you a price range of the cost of the project.
  3. If the estimated project cost meets your budget, we will send a Prospective Move Agreement to you. If the project estimate exceeds $10,000 we will be required to drive the route of your move and look at all locations to and from where your structure will be moved.
  4. From there, your project will be budgeted and you will be given a specific price for the move.
  5. The cost of the prospective move is $250-750 depending on the time needed to accurately budget your job. This amount will be credited to the final coast of the move.
  6. When we have agreed on the price of your move, we will then send you a contract identifying the mover's and the customer's responsibilities. Once the contract is signed and the first draw is received (usually 1/3rd of the cost of the move) we will then schedule your move so you can plan accordingly.
Client Responsibility: (Typical)
  1. Obtain a Building permit at new location.
  2. Obtain Demolition / Relocation permit at old site & services (electric, water, gas and sewer) disconnected.
  3. If you are buying a house from somebody else. please make sure that they have a Demolition / Relocation permit and that they have disconnected all services.
  4. Securing and protecting all of the contents of the structure upon the commencement of work.
  5. Clearing move barriers on your lot to accommodate the move of your structure.
Mover Responsibility: (Typical)
  1. Arrange for the road use permits.
  2. Coordinating police or private escorts for the transportation of your structure from location to location.
  3. Cut the structure, if necessary, for the purpose of the move.
  4. For a small fee that shall be credited to the cost of your move, we will conduct a prospective move to assess all necessary aspects of your proposed move including measurements, route runs and barrier identification.
  Preparation of house / site:
  1. You will be responsible for preparing your lot and the house before the moving operation.
  2. Access and proper location of building corner markers are very important. Call us if you are unsure of how your particular site has to be modified for access of the house and our equipment.
  3. We expect you to prepare the building and sites as required. This includes, but is not limited to:
  • disconnecting all services
  • removing any pipes / ducts, etc. under buildings
  • removing trees or other obstacles
  • removing chimneys, if required
  • bracing or removing entrance roofs
  • removing any asbestos or other hazardous products
  • providing reasonable driving surfaces
  • excavating as required
  • clearly staking out new locations in the excavation, etc.

At the new site
Typically, we will move your house to the new location and leave it at a height of three feet above average ground level to allow you to construct a new foundation. The new foundation must have block-outs to facilitate the removal of our beams and equipment.

Each local government has different rules / by-laws. Please check with your local government before going forward with your move.
